e- when i hear you i imagine that you’re tired- really blast thru your words

Notes from JP on end staging:

it feels like a lot of theatrical stuff all at once packed in together (but im also seeing it without the momentum of the end of the show)
energetically it feels like at this point in the show, we are getting down to the essential truths, there could be a w/ slower pace… (“its like having pillow talk in every room in the house”)
some could happen earlier, in other shows, in other places, etc

what ones feel the most true to you, k?

i like the spitting part
the labels can come off quicker- spending a few stanzas on them is too many
i like the hands i think
if we could do the drawers/purple earlier that would be cool
the section-twirl, sit, dust, could be condensed- — too many moments in too quick succession, too fast
i like the fabric better when its big & flowy- like it less as accessory
i really like the spit on the projector

JP- theres multiple ways you’re visually representing your heart (hands, drawing, scarf)- pick your image. mixing of the metaphors at the end- too many things at once. if you give us too many options it shuts down our whole semiotic agency

-e- some of this stuff can happen when the recordings are happening

the purple wings could happen earlier in the show- e- like for lepidopterus?

e- the most important thing to focus on right now is the text, making sure you’re speaking it in the way youre really working on feeling and communicating the text. the staging is interesting but it has a danger of covering rather than illuminating, if we add too much.

jp- don’t think about how you sound- you don’t want to be self conscious about your voice while youre acting. think about what you’re DOING. not how you sound. focus on your intention.

practice saying it to your scrambled eggs

practice to friends, lover, to your breakfast, while you’re jogging.

anything that can help you break out of the patterns of saying it

voice exercises ideas:

whispering my body has been built for cruelty
person whose teeth are wired shut-mouthless (kanye/katie mouthlessness)

Compositions for “i talk of flight because”

1: Draping black dress over chair, over shoulders, orbitting chair
2: Playing with purple floaty fabric
(in both cases, “loving becomes something you wear, something you wrap yourself in”)

Images from Composition to take up a lot of the space included:

tying cheesecloth to purple fabric, attaching to a chair, pulling across room
tying purple strips to back of a chair to float behind as chair moves
rolling across room in chair, pulling fabric out of drawer on other side of room
cheesecloth comes out of white paper towel dispenser

i didn’t add these movement notes directly into the google doc (yet) because i wasn’t sure if the staging for them was final. i am posting the notes from both takes of list of anxieties, and from the i loved him part. k do you have movement notes from your composition exercise? (i took some but they are not very detailed.)

Composition exercise

(what they tried to tell me in school / was that all girls have hearts /
where men put their spines / what they told me in school was that /
all men have urges, & all girls have holes in their hearts / & men /
want to put their urges into the empty parts of you & you say / no. /
no no no no no / but whenever anyone asks you whether
or not you are happy, or whether or not you are helpful you say /
yes yes yes / & you say please & thank you / & I say yes when I am
supposed to say no / & I say please when I am supposed to say /
thank you / & I say no no no no no when I am by myself / & urges
only make more holes in me / mine & men’s / )

My urges implode on themselves & become black holes (Slides down board to floor)
sucking at me with ashamed yearning (Atlas holds the world up)
behind my ornamental mouth.

It makes me yearn harder.

I loved him notes

I loved him. Traces circle slowly with pointer finger of left hand

Just that. Just a pain I cannot name. he changed the texture of the air. everything sunless & screaming. it was a cocoon, (open hand on the board, then keep tracing) the dark noise (back to finger). cocoons, these bodies I miss, when I think of them I remember this first. (pause in reverse lepi pose, put hand on hip. pick up both erasers as if about to teach a lesson)

There is a color coded working script! With stage directions, movement, lights, sounds, & questions) We can also ultimately separate it out into different scripts for different purposes- ie, just lights, just sound, just stage directions, etc.
